Welcome to Floyd's Miniatures!

"Art enables us to to find ourselves and lose ourselves at the same time."

- Thomas Merton

My interest in collecting and painting miniatures began when I was 12 yrs. old (1983) when fantasy role playing games were all the rage.  As a young boy with a huge imagination, I spent hour upon hour reading "Conan The Barbarian" comics and watching the animated versions of J.R.R Tolkien's "The Hobbit" and "Return of The King".  Given my fascination with fantasy literature and the myths and legends of ancient Britain,  I was easily drawn into the web of fantasy gaming and miniatures collecting.

Through trial and error, I taught myself to paint miniature figures (primarily 25mm in scale).  By the time I graduated high school my interests began to shift. I gave away my entire collection of miniatures and put this hobby on the back burner. In the late 90's I briefly took the hobby up again and expanded out into model building as well. Eventually, I moved on to other activities and once again took a break from painting and model building. Now, in my mid 40's, I have rediscovered this rewarding hobby once again.

What attracts me the most to this art form is that I can easily "lose myself" when I am engaged in it. To me, it is a form of creative meditation; the day to day worries and stresses of life are temporarily put on hold as I become one with the finely tipped paintbrush I hold in my hand. I find enjoyment in transforming an unpainted figurine into a colorful expression of my imagination.

My goals in creating this website are to share some of my past and current miniatures projects along with painting and modeling techniques I have acquired over the years. In addition, I have pages on other artistic hobbies I enjoy such as, fantasy artwork, Native American crafts, and costume making. It is my purpose to use this site as an open forum for others who wish to share what they have learned. Like any art form, there is always something new to learn; one can easily spend a lifetime perfecting their craft. It is my hope that you can find something useful on this website and be inspired to engage in this rewarding hobby for yourself! If you have any suggestions, questions, or comments, please email me at floydsminiatures@gmail.com

Warm regards,

-Floyd
